The Breath Between

The Breath Between explores equine form through stillness and controlled illumination. In this series, the horse is approached not as subject or symbol, but as living structure—muscle, tension, and balance held in suspension. The work resides in the interval between motion and rest, where presence gathers before release.

Illumination is restrained and deliberate. Light does not describe anatomy, but reveals structure as it becomes available. As illumination moves across the surface, form emerges quietly—through weight, continuity, and contained power—then recedes back into shadow.

Reduction is essential. By removing environment and narrative, the viewer encounters form without reference. There is no arena or horizon—only the threshold where illumination allows structure to speak.

The Breath Between forms the equine movement within Studies in Light & Form, examining restraint as discipline and the tension between human will and living form.

Across this work, I am not documenting animals.

I am photographing illumination where form becomes quiet enough to be heard.
